Cost Accountant

Position Overview

This position will assist with managing the day-to-day cost accounting and administrative operations for a portfolio of medical office buildings in tenant related and capital improvement construction.  This position reports to the Senior Capital Asset Accountant.

Essential Job Functions           

  • Job Set up and maintenance for Tenant Related construction work and capital improvement construction work ensuring appropriate backup and approval for any new job or budget changes to job
  • Prepares and enters all project job cost information for a portfolios of construction jobs necessary to maintain budget cost categories and ledger accounts to accurately reflect proper cost codes and balances
  • Responsible for the cost coding of contract bids and commitments for capital and tenant improvement construction
  • Responsible for the appropriate cost coding of construction invoices. Responsible for verifying mathematical correctness of invoices, available budget and proper support is received
  • Work closely with the construction team and other internal customers, providing timely and thorough information, insight and analysis concerning their respective Tenant Improvement and Capital improvement projects and related budgets
  • Monthly review of WIP balances and Placing Assets into Service per accounting policies
  • Billing of Tenant Improvement overages
  • Calculation of Construction Management fees
  • Complete ad hoc project work as assigned to contribute to efforts to support company growth
  • Understanding of and adherence to related SOX controls
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Accounting degree or equivalent experience
  • Possess understanding and familiarity of GAAP and SOX compliance
  • Excellent MS Excel Skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize deadlines
  • Excellent deductive reasoning and problem solving skills
  • Team player; willingness to help department meet goals and responsibilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 1 or more years’ experience in real estate and/or construction project accounting preferred
  • Experience using accounting job cost software and PROCORE a plus
